Kathryn McKenzieAbout Us

Surefire Fitness is owned and operated by Kathryn McKenzie. She grew up in Winnipeg, MB and has always been passionate about sports and fitness. After graduating from Collège Jeanne-Sauvé in south Winnipeg, she accepted a scholarship to play volleyball at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, BC where after two years she graduated with a Diploma in Physical Education. She was named captain of the volleyball team and was also a member of the soccer team. Kathryn was recognized as an All-Canadian, Academic All-Canadian, and Athlete of the Year before accepting a volleyball scholarship and transferring to the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. While at UBC, she was named volleyball team captain, Can-West Conference All-Star, and Academic All-Canadian. She graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Human Kinetics and a Bachelor of Education.

Kathryn McKenzieSince her graduation, Kathryn has taught Physical Education to students from Kindergarten through to Grade 12. Kathryn also taught courses in the Health and Recreation Department at Randwick College in Sydney, Australia. While in Australia, she competed in the Australian Volleyball League. It was also while living in Australia that she started coaching and playing competitive tennis.

For her entire life she has been active in a multitude of athletic pursuits (too many to mention!) and for over ten years, she has been coaching or training athletes in numerous sports (including volleyball, soccer, tennis, golf, beach volleyball, running, ice hockey, field hockey, track and field, basketball, ultimate, rowing, etc.) ranging from beginner to elite level.

Kathryn McKenzieShe has also continued to gain credentials in order to keep up with the ever-evolving world of sport conditioning and to be able to provide her clients with cutting-edge training. She has obtained her certification as a Personal Trainer Specialist through the Canadian Fitness Professionals Association and her advanced certification as a Sport Conditioning Specialist through Twist Conditioning. She has worked in fitness facilities and with top trainers in both Vancouver and Winnipeg and has used these experiences to create Surefire Fitness. She is also an NCCP Certified Coach in numerous sports, a Tennis Canada Certified Instructor, a TPI Certified Golf Fitness Instructor, and is TRX Suspension Training certified.

When not training others, she enjoys playing competitive tennis, hockey, yoga, and full contact golf (full contact with the ball anyway!)

Kathryn loves to help others tackle challenges they may have previously thought impossible. Her experience in so many areas helps her offer a wide range of training styles and philosophies. This enables her to adapt to each client individually in order to help them achieve their goals - whatever they may be.
